Start by giving your Address a Destination name. The Destination field is the name that will be displayed on the Address Book List. You can call it anything you like.
Username: This is the login name or ID that you'd normally use to access the server.
Remember Password: When this box is checked DropSite will remember the password you type below in the Password field. If the box is unchecked DropSite will ask you for a password before attempting to deliver files.
Hostname: This is the name of the server; i.e ftp.frodis.com
Path: The path is where on the server you want to deliver the files to. DropSite expects a Unix-style path like /users/bobo/projectfiles
note the direction of the slashes. If you know the path you can type it right in, otherwise you may want to use the Path Finder feature to help you set the correct path.
Encode / Archive Files: Check this box to turn on file encoding or archiving. If the Encode Files radio button is selected then files will be encoded by the method described by the adjacent popup menu. It's important to note that BinHex and MacBinary are the only two methods of encoding that will preserve the resource fork of your files. Archived files are made into a StuffIt® archive which always includes resource forks. Zip archives do not include resource forks. The adjacent popup menu will allow you to choose a naming scheme. Archiving is only available when you have a pre-installed StuffIt Engine® from Aladdin Systems.
Timeout Period: You probably won't need to bother with this setting. If you are trying to deliver files to a slow server you may need to make the timeout period longer. This setting is the maximum number of seconds that DropSite will wait for the server to respond to a command. If the server does not respond DropSite will give up. This number is a safety valve for servers that may not be responding properly.
Send text files as ASCII: When this is checked files that are of type 'TEXT' are send in the 'A' mode instead of 'I' or binary mode.
User alternate firewall port: This option tells DropSite to use another control port instead of port 21. You should check with the server administrator for advice on firewall settings.
File Permissions: As your files are delivered you can set the access permissions for them. As owner you will generally will want to have read, write and execute permission. Access by others is another story. You will have to decide how you will allow others to access your files. If you are updating a web pages you will probably want to grant read access. Note: if you leave all the checkboxes unchecked the file permissions will be left to the server's default settings; the permissions will not be changed.
You should check with the server administrator for advice on setting file permissions.
Use the Path Finder to help you set the correct path of your destination. The interface is very similar to a standard Save dialog. Use the "Open" button or double-click on a folder to open it. The path will be displayed below. You can edit the path and click the "CD" button to change to that directory -- like cd under unix or DOS. When you are satisfied with the path click the "Set Path" button and the current path will be set for the current address. Clicking the Cancel button will take you back to the FTP dialog.
